Four Robert Allen/ Rastar 2900 SX terminal tugs from Sanmar will be used in the fleet in the Tanger-Med Port in Morocco, operated by the Danish towage company Svitzer as of 2018. The tugs will each be fitted with two 16V 4000 M73L MTU engines. This is the first time high-speed engines are being used to power harbour tugs in this power class (90t bollard pull).

Rolls-Royce and Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey have signed a contract for the delivery of eight MTU Series 4000 engines for four new terminal tugs, including an option for a further four engines.

The high-performance Series 4000 engines for yachts are modified slightly to meet IMO Tier III and launched on the market with MTU’s SCR system. The engines will be available as 12, 16 and 20-cylinder versions for a power range extending from 1,920 to 3,900 kW.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems and the public utility company of the city of Constance are to join forces from 2019 in testing a new MTU 8-cylinder Series 4000 gas engine.  The engine will be installed in a new ferry on the Constance-Meersburg shuttle service.
