Passenger Ships & Ferries

Passenger and goods transportation is constantly assuming greater importance. For the efficient and reliable operation of passenger vessels and ferries, the significance of engine compactness and low weight along with operational reliability and availability cannot be overemphasized.

Therefore it is not surprising that most of these ships are powered by MTU engines. The hydrofoils and catamarans currently in service in Europe and Asia provide vivid testimony.

Our engines are also employed on larger vessels. In the high-speed ferry market, MTU occupies a prominent position with vessels over 70 meters. These ships can carry up to 1,000 passengers and 250 cars and cut travel time to a third of that required by conventional vessels.

Ships relying on MTU power have been in service on the seven seas for many years - often in round-the-clock service for months on end.
