The importance of transporting people and high-quality goods on water is continually increasing. A crucial requirement for the safe and economical operation of ships is a low-weight, high-performance propulsion system with little mounting space, great reliability, and optimal availability.
These are attributes that have characterized our engines from the very beginning. No wonder then, that so many passenger ships and ferries use MTU engines. Not only the lion’s share of hydrofoils and catamarans in Europe and Asia use MTU propulsion – our engines are also used in larger ships.
MTU also has a significant percentage of the market of large and fast ferries (> 70 m) that carry up to 1,000 passengers and 250 cars in a third of the travel time required by conventional ships. Therefore our engines are working on almost every ocean, sea, and river of the world, often in continuous operation for several years.
