Our rail business is an integral segment of the success at MTU UK. In this sector our orientation focuses upon gaining repowering contracts and our after sales business.

Repowering
Throughout 2009, MTU UK have supplied 160 x 16V4000R41 (2000kW @ 1800 rpm) engines in a big project to repower the fleet of High Speed Trains (HST) operated by First Great Western and National Express on the UK mainlines between London – Edinburgh and London – West country.
Since the programme commenced the MTU powered HST’s have travelled over 1.1 million kilometres and operated in service for 1.8 million hours with the engines achieving availability of over 99%.
The success of the repower programme is a result of the close co-operation between MTU, the train owners/ operators and the engineering integrators.
MTU have repower solutions for DMU’s (Diesel Multiple Unit), passenger and freight locomotives from 315 kW – 3500 Kw.
Our engines are compliant with stage 3A emissions regulation and will be compliant with stage 3B as required for 2012.

MTU_ValueCare (Aftersales)
MTU UK have incorporated a state-of-the-art facility on their premises in East Grinstead, comprised of over 31,000 sq ft of workshop space and a specialised crane with a capacity of 20 tonnes.
We are currently busy servicing half life overhauls on the 2000 kW HST engines and we intend to expand our facility even further to cope in -line with our fast growth in MTU powered railcars in the UK.
Complete spare parts and logistics planning is available and in addition MTU has stationed qualified Rail engine technicians in the major Rail maintenance depots.

MTU PowerPacks®
MTU have supplied approximately 500 integrated underfloor powerpacks with horizontally mounted engines to DMU railcars operating in the UK and Ireland.
