A single strand of male hair is 0.06 millimeters thick. That dimension is at least ten times the size of the gap allowed between crankshaft and crankcase in MTU’s new Series 4000 engine. A space so small it can barely be conceived. However to exclude the risk of material damage caused by rotation of the crankshaft, that dimension has to be exactly maintained, which demands a high degree of precision in manufacture.
