Tognum awards best Engine Component Suppliers

  • Tognum subsidiary MTU maintains close Supplier Contacts to ensure long-term Quality Standards
  • Stringent Evaluation System to ensure Premium Performance for Customers
  • Procurement Volume of approximately €1 billion for Manufactured Parts in 2007

Friedrichshafen, 14 July 2008. The Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH selected their best engine component suppliers for the Supplier Award 2008. Tognum CTO Dr. Gerd-Michael Wolters pointed out the significance of the awards during his speech: “With this award, we want to show our suppliers that we place a premium on sustained good business relations. At the same time, we want to let our customers know about our consistent quality management, because only first-rate supplier performance enables us to provide our customers with products complying with the tried & tested quality standards expected from us.“

Two companies share this year’s award for the best finished part supplier: Maurer Electronic GmbH from Uttenweiler and Miba Gleitlager GmbH from Laakirchen in Austria. Both suppliers had managed to collect the same number of points in the stringent internal evaluation process. Thanks to great commitment and the outstanding quality of their products, crankcase blank manufacturer Gebrüder Gienanth Eisenberg GmbH from Eisenberg took the award for best blank supplier for the third year running.

Suppliers are evaluated on the basis of criteria such as quality, price, logistics services and support. In view of rising quantities, streamlined cooperation with the supplier becomes increasingly important. Cooperation starts with the development of products and ranges from quality control to clean and secure packaging. In 2007, MTU Friedrichshafen and MTU Detroit Diesel cooperated with approx. 1,300 production material suppliers. During this time, the procurement expense amounted approximately to €1 billion. About 81% of this volume is provided by about 230 main suppliers. Permanent cooperation and continuous validation of these so-called “Target Suppliers“ is an important factor contributing to ensuring sustained quality standards for delivered, i.e. end products, for MTU customers.
