Special-purpose vehicles - Powerhouses from MTU: Equal to any task.
Modern defence forces have to be more versatile than ever before. Their tasks range from combat duties to reconnaissance and supply missions and can involve anything from a domestic national role to activities as representatives of international organisations. Any and all of these roles can be required in the tropics, in desert regions, in arctic conditions, on land and even on water.
Some of these tasks can only be performed by special-purpose vehicles. Bridgelayer tanks, for example, have to ford rivers in minutes, mine-clearing vehicles are needed to cut a safe passage through mine-infested territory and amphibious vehicles have to ferry troops from their transport vessels to land at speeds of up to 30 kn.
All of these tasks demand powerful engines with extremely high torque. MTU engines really are powerhouses: They are rugged, deliver formidable lugging power and are outstandingly dependable - all characteristics which have earned MTU engines their legendary reputation.
