In military conflicts, battle tanks seek out direct contact. For these vehicles, mobility is therefore one of the most vital criteria. Coupled with other factors it increases active protection for the crews and is a decisive element in mission success.
First, second and third generation MTU tank engines have earned themselves an outstanding reputation in vehicles such as the Leopard I, Leopard II and Leclerc Tropicalisé and these units set global standards when it comes to mobility, power density and reliability.
MTU has already developed the fourth generation - the Series 890. This engine is around 50% smaller and lighter than its most compact predecessor, the Series 880. This means space and weight savings for future vehicle systems. The units are also ideally suited for diesel-electric and diesel-hybrid drives.
